I was introduced to Virginia Stroud's art at the IAIA in Santa Fe, NM. Her prints depicting young Cherokee women collecting water and going to market hang on our walls. The women wear colorful print skirts and contrasting print tops and carry their woven baskets. My friend Sis creates our baskets. Here the shiny black braids are trimmed with matching ribbon ties. Perhaps like the Navajo, one sees and hears before one speaks which explains the absence of a mouth. Thank you, Virginia, for the inspiration.
