Will you be my Valentine?

Someone once said, Bonnie's dolls look so real they seem to breathe. Being the designer of hundreds of dolls - some much better than others - I can tell you they do have heart. They love back without asking.

Little Things Mean A Lot

We rebounded from a splendid Christmas Day with our grandchildren and their
doll_house0250.jpg parents. Musical instruments, school supplies and a doll house kept the house buzzing, all capped with a perfect turkey banquet mastered by Kara in her new, old Glenwood stove. All this while Lew and I were fighting off a bug, and two of us tolerated one another with grace! We couldn't exchange the Peace at church, and we probably should not have gone, but we got to hear our stitcher Linda sing a solo and got a diagnosis from Nurse Anita.  Sinusitis. After a doctor's visit, the two of us are mending and accomplishing those lists, including the send out of our Epiphany greeting.

Grow Up With Me

Being around my family last week made me think about the legacy of what I create with love to be guaranteed for life.

That Thursday night we arrived at the family homestead in mid-Vermont to do four things.  First, we reinforced that Dad was the perfect candidate to be Assistant Pastor at their church, and that he had to write papers, read in quiet, counsel and all that was a good and wonderful thing. Mom got to go on a date that evening with her favorite guy after dance class. And that often means food shopping. We went over our notes on Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys, our home school lesson for the next day. But the most delightful experience was the doll hospital.

Customers keep coming back!

That's a good thing. We know they return for many reasons.  Quality. Originality. Ageless appeal.  An addition to the family. Color and variety. Yes, some must come back to use their 10% Customer Appreciation Award.  They purchase and get another certificate. Pretty good. Thankfully Bonnie's Bundles are not American Girl dolls, but are made in Vermont, not China. We can make a lookalike but he or she will be soft and lovable and even washable and guaranteed for a lifetime. The truth is my team and I make incredible dolls!

The Greatest Idea Since Popcorn

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

When we home school with our grandchildren, the Friday afternoon treat before we leave is Kara's popcorn, made just the way she and dad made it when she was a little girl. But she adds grated Parmesan cheese on top! What made me think of this is the Promise Room.

The Rage is Commissions

In the four plus decades, I estimate there have been about three hundred designs created. I am often asked to make a doll to look like a grandson or a daughter or even boyfriends!  With a wee personality hint and a photograph, off I go.  Keepers like Grace, Claire, Rachel and Owen were all created in pencil, a dab of Photoshop and once signed off - embroidery.  So what's the rage all about?

Giving From the Heart

When you own a business in a small town, you are "hit up" for offerings for silent auctions, benefits, and worthwhile fundraisers. We have lived in this Chester community for 36 years, and it is not easy to say "No." Why?

The Benchmark - Raggedy Ann

The first dolls I made were from patterns and sewing books. I was not confident enough to design. There was Samantha, an old fashioned quilted doll, calico animals in frames, stuffed animals, Christmas tree ornaments and the standard, Raggedy Ann and Andy. I made one for each of my three daughters. William, our oldest grandson celebrating ten today still treasures his Andy. His boy has been washed and dried several times and still loves William back. Here we are at the first outdoor fair. My father is in the photo, proudly watching his first granddaughter, Kate, pick and choose her favorite mommy product. Very discriminating, she chose dolls! That bench still displays our girls and goes to fairs.

The Promise Room - A Sweet Layaway Plan

I have always loved that my work is all around me; not only the messes I make, but my inspirations, my work in progress, and my finished products. There are dolls everywhere since our Gallery is in our home, but display is kept to three rooms. That's usually about 100 "people."  Some are here longer than I'd like. Maybe they just don't want to go away. Sooner or later each Bundle finds a home; some just take longer to be chosen. Why is that?

Sales just for you!

I think it was Grace K., a realtor in N.J. who was trying to sell us a house in Bergen County back in 1971. "Remember, Mr. Watters, the house priced right will sell!" On Norman Rockwell's print the saying goes, "You can't sell from an empty wagon." Both true. Remember then that a spool of thread was 25 cents; today it is nearly $5. Fabric was 50 cents to $1 a yard, now it's $8 to $10! But what can we offer you now?
