Will you be my Valentine?

Someone once said, Bonnie's dolls look so real they seem to breathe. Being the designer of hundreds of dolls - some much better than others - I can tell you they do have heart. They love back without asking.

A Fun Fall Fashionable Event

Many signs lead me to the idea of the Fall Fashion Show and Boutique.  On a Wednesday this summer Zinny and Eva measured all the dolls and made careful pencil lists of their sizes.  More and more customers are asking for outfit switches on their look alike doll. A couple of moms suggested their little Bundle moms wanted to change outfits and dress their girl at bedtime. Then there is that absolute love I have working with children and dolls.

Which Came First?

The icons or the motifs? Let's figure it out together.

Customers keep coming back!

That's a good thing. We know they return for many reasons.  Quality. Originality. Ageless appeal.  An addition to the family. Color and variety. Yes, some must come back to use their 10% Customer Appreciation Award.  They purchase and get another certificate. Pretty good. Thankfully Bonnie's Bundles are not American Girl dolls, but are made in Vermont, not China. We can make a lookalike but he or she will be soft and lovable and even washable and guaranteed for a lifetime. The truth is my team and I make incredible dolls!

The Rage is Commissions

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

In the four plus decades, I estimate there have been about three hundred designs created. I am often asked to make a doll to look like a grandson or a daughter or even boyfriends!  With a wee personality hint and a photograph, off I go.  Keepers like Grace, Claire, Rachel and Owen were all created in pencil, a dab of Photoshop and once signed off - embroidery.  So what's the rage all about?

Rainy Day Fosters Creativity

Lew and I did many productive things earlier this month when it was raining in
Chester, VT.  We prepared our porch, now rescreened and ready for solar, thanks to our son-in-law Andy's fine carpentry work. Silvio was thrilled to see the "Eddie wicker furniture" that he remembered so well. He has several favored stations to manage comings and goings.

But more important that day, we put into practice what we learned from our friend Cindy who urged us to read "Clutter Busting," a book which reinforces the notation that if your creative space is "a mess," your creativity is at a standstill.  I was in that place. So I listened. And I acted.

And the result was phenomenal. Doing what I had to do worked.

The Benchmark - Raggedy Ann

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
The first dolls I made were from patterns and sewing books. I was not confident enough to design. There was Samantha, an old fashioned quilted doll, calico animals in frames, stuffed animals, Christmas tree ornaments and the standard, Raggedy Ann and Andy. I made one for each of my three daughters. William, our oldest grandson celebrating ten today still treasures his Andy. His boy has been washed and dried several times and still loves William back. Here we are at the first outdoor fair. My father is in the photo, proudly watching his first granddaughter, Kate, pick and choose her favorite mommy product. Very discriminating, she chose dolls! That bench still displays our girls and goes to fairs.

Done!

Lew and I thoroughly enjoyed "The Musical of Musicals" at the Weston Playhouse this summer. The finale was a parody of "One" from Bennett's A Chorus Line.  The audience is still sitting there and the cast sings "Go home. Done."  As an aside, for the first time in a year, we have put musical tapes in our entertainment center and are singing. (I normally work in quiet.) But I should be dancing, because those last commissions are done. I won't even go into the details of the Matt doll for Myra's giving to her fiancĂ©, but I will tell you Lew took out his wood blocks to help make this a sensational gift. Commissions, you say, how does that happen?

Pretty in Pink

You've heard me talk about Matt and Myra before, friends who put me onto blogging.  Their commissions have resulted in some interesting Bundles like Daisy. She wanted a doll to decorate a "diaper" cake for an auction that had the breast cancer ribbon for eyes and everything pink. How did it turn out?View image
