During our 2006 three-month cross-country trip, we visited Fort Scott National Historic Site where I had the pleasure of repairing old costumes. Roaming through the clothing cache and the bookstore there, I was inspired by a photo of a little girl which culminated in the birth of a prairie child in authentic costuming of the day. She caused the whole notion of heirloom. She is Kansas.
